I’m curious about this holiday, so I go to the cemetery to see what’s happening.

What I find is quite interesting.

They clean the graves and add fresh flowers.

I walk to the cemetery and admire the beauty of all the colorful flowers.

من در قبرستان راه می‌روم و زیبایی تمام گل‌های رنگارنگ را می‌ستایم.

There is also color in the sky, because many kids are flying kites.

در آسمان هم رنگ هست، چرا که خیلی از کودکان دارند بادبادک هوا می‌کنند.

Some families are having a picnic next to the graves.

بعضی خانواده‌ها کنار قبرها پیک‌نیک به راه انداخته‌اند.

They eat, drink, and chat together.

می‌خورند، می‌نوشند و با هم صحبت می‌کنند.

People laugh and smile.

مردم می‌خندند و لبخند می‌زنند.

In the United States, cemeteries are always somber.

در ایالات متحده، قبرستان‌ها همیشه غم‌آلودند.

We certainly never have festivals or parties next to graves.

ما مطمئناً هیچ‌گاه جشنواره‌ها و مهمانی‌هایی کنار قبرها نداریم.

We don’t laugh or play music or fly kites in cemeteries either.

در قبرستان‌ها نمی‌خندیم یا موسیقی نمی‌نوازیم یا بادبادک هوا نمی‌کنیم.

I find that I prefer the Guatemalan approach.

I like the way they remember and celebrate those who have passed away.

Christmas is a holiday.

So holiday is common word.

The most common word we use.

So I say I’m curious about this holiday.

So I go to the cemetery.

پس به قبرستان می‌روم.

Cemetery is a place for dead people.

قبرستان جایی برای افراد مرده است.

Many, many dead people in a cemetery so that’s what a cemetery is.

افراد مرده‌ی خیلی خیلی زیادی در قبرستان هستند پس قبرستان این است.

Right?

A place for dead people.

جایی برای افراد مرده.

It’s a large area usually large place.

منطقه‌ای بزرگ معمولاً جایی بزرگ.

Okay, the next paragraph, I say, The atmosphere is like a party.

خب، پاراگراف بعدی، می‌گویم که، جَو مثل مهمانی است.

Here “atmosphere” means the, the general feeling of a place.

این‌جا «جَو» به‌معنای احساس کلیِ جایی‌ست.

For example: I might say, this house has a happy atmosphere.

برای مثال: ممکن است من بگویم، این خانه جَو شادی دارد.

it means the place has a happy feeling.

Maybe it’s very warm, maybe a lot of nice people there.

many reasons, but atmosphere means the feeling of a place.

Many people everywhere and people were sitting around the graves of their dead ancestors.

A grave, a grave is a place where one dead person is buried.

So a cemetery has many many graves.

So each grave has one body and then many graves in a cemetery.

Okay, they’re sitting around the graves of their dead ancestors.

Ancestor is a person who comes before you and your family.

Passed away is softer and more polite.

Next sentence, I say I like that they acknowledge death.

Acknowledge means to recognize.

acknowledge یعنی تصدیق کردن.

To see and recognize.

Instead of denying it.

به‌جای رد کردن آن.

Denying is the opposite of acknowledge.

denying مخالف acknowledge است.

Deny means avoid.

deny یعنی خودداری کردن.

To say no to something.

To avoid something is to deny it.

The opposite of deny is acknowledge.

In the mini story I will do 3 things.

I will make a statement.

For example, “I arrived in Guatemala.

” When you hear a statement, a sentence, you just say, “Ah” or “Oh”, okay?

You need to say that.
